Sonexy app redesign

Platform
Mobile, web
Duration
4 months (2024)
Project
Quickdata Studio
My role
researcher  &  designer
Problem statement
Sonexy was a freshly started social network/ learning app build on ambitious ideas, a brand identity to start from, and developer solutions. Unfortunately, it lacked a user oriented structure and design. And it had no user retention.
Challenge
Our team’s challenge was to find the best design solutions, while also keeping the technical and structural changes to a minimum.
Our work included:
  • app analysis and UX audit
  • UX changes for fixing most important pain points: new onboarding flow and restructuring of some app features (menus, their new groups feature)
  • full UI redesign
Here’s how the process went:

Generative Research

01
I analysed the user flows and features of 3 competitors to identify opportunities for improvement
02
We organized an internal focus group within the studio, tested the app and drew conclusions
03
I conducted some desk research - looking for users feedback, app store reviews, articles etc.

Approach

We gathered the research results in a UX-UI Audit and  presented it to the client.
Conclusion for this phase:
  • full UI redesign
  • new onboarding flow
  • redesign for main and secondary menus
  • design and structure for the Groups feature

Design

01

Ideation

We designed a new feed page as a proof of concept for a new user interface that would be user-centered and have a clean design, while also keeping sonexy’s colorful identity.
02

The design system

Created a consistent, scalable design system that works for present and future features.
03

Navigation and interaction design

Redesigned the navigation components in order to make them intuitive and increase the time to value for users
04

Onboarding  UX design

New onboarding user flow that is more user friendly, gathers a bit of user information and also gives the new users a glimps of the features - bringing the “aha moment” closer
05

UI design

Comprehensive design for all the pages and features - this included the main feed, user profiles, user chat, learning units (stations and journeys), reviews, personal progress portfolio, new “groups” feature etc

Next steps

Gather quantitative and qualitative data on user behaviour on the app. Reiterate the design process.
